With clinics in London and New York and a client list that includes stars, celebrities, politicians and royalty, Philip Kingsley is widely recognized as a leading authority on his subject.

Called “The Hair Doctor” by The Times and “The Hair Guru” by The New York Times, Philip Kingsley, born in London, has been a practising trichological consultant since 1957 and a Fellow and past Chairman of the Institue of Trichology. After being a consultant trichologist to a prestigious Mayfair hair salon, the first Philip Kingsley Trichological Clinic opened in London in 1960. In response to demand for the service in America he founded the Philip Kingsley Trichological Centre in New York, which opened in 1977. The list of Kingsley’s clients reads like a world’s Who’s Who. He even created the product Elasticizer specifically for Audrey Hepburn, and has continued to develop a wide range of award-winning hair care products. Philip Kingsley regularly contributes expert advice to newspapers and magazines and has appeared on many television programmes, both in Britain and the United States. Philip Kingsley understands better than anyone the meaning of a ‘bad hair day’, after all he invented the term.

Watch our short video with Philip Kingsley talking about hair type.

Hair Type:

Fine hair feels thin and lacks natural body and bounce. There may be areas where you can see the scalp through the hair. Fine hair can be either straight or wavy and is typical of Caucasian hair types.*

Medium hair feels thicker in texture, both in the individual strands and in the overall volume of the hair on the scalp. Medium textured hair can be straight, wavy or curly.

Coarse hair feels rough in texture and it may feel like you have a lot of it. Coarse hair can be straight, eg. Asian hair or curly, frizzy.

Please Note: Do not confuse lots of fine hair with medium or coarse textured hair . If the shaft of the individual hair feels thin and delicate, and lacks body, even if there are many of them, then the correct category for your hair type is ‘Fine’.

Animal Testing
We at Philip Kingsley pride ourselves on maintaining and upholding a zero tolerance policy to our products or any products associated with our brand being animal tested. Our products have not been tested in any way on animals.

Environmentally friendly packaging
Great hair is not just about how you look but how you feel. Philip Kingsley Products uses biodegradable bottles in order to reduce our carbon footprint and have minimal impact on our environment. We were the first customer of M & H Plastics to embrace this new biodegradable product. The bottles’ properties do not interfere with the recycling process- they look like normal plastic and have the same properties, until placed within a landfill compostable environment where they disintegrate in soil at a fraction of the normal plastic decomposition rate, providing positive environmental benefits when they are unlikely to be recycled.
